CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

I remember when I was trying to choose what to study, I used to collect the study programs and read them with my friends and one of the things that caught my attention, specifically of the study programme of dentistry, were the names of the subjects. I would change them because I think they are very long and not appealing, as in my case I didn’t know what to expect. In my opinion is better to use a simple name so that everyone can understand.

Of the subjects we have, I think they are very complete but there are some of them that maybe we can put together, for example the ones that talk about similar topics, or we can just have one semester of them, in this way we can reduce the workload a little and the length of the studies as well.

As for online teaching, with the pandemic we had to get used to this new method in which technology is the main way to learn. At first it was difficult to adapt, for us like students and for the teachers as well, spending many hours in front of the computer and having bad connection. Despite that, I think we had endured this situation very well till this moment. However one thing I would like to change is the number of group projects in the semester or to try to balance the individual and group projects because sometimes its difficult to coordinate and it can be a little exhausting.

TIME TRAVEL TO THE PAST or TO THE FUTURE

If I have to choose where to go if a time machine were invented, I think I would go to the future because I would like to see what direction my life is going to take, how the world is going to be, what is going to be the new technology that people will use, will things be better or worse? I think it will be very interesting to find out.

I would go with one of my friends because I think it would be fun to see each other’s life. We can do many things there, like see if we the pandemic is already over or there’s another one going on, which I hope is not like that.

We will be able to see in what are going to be working and if we like it or not, our daily life and which people are going to be around us. If we have achieved our goals or we are still heading there.

Also, we would be able to see the evolution of the technology and the development of the medical field, in terms of the cure of some diseases and their treatments.

I don’t think I would stay in the future because we don’t know exactly what we will discover, so I would just like to stay for a moment and then come back to the present.

MY FUTURE JOB

What I would like to do after I finish my studies at the university is to work as a dentist but specially, I have in mind to specialize in orthodontics because I found it very interesting, and it can help people not only by correcting the position of their teeth but with their self-esteem too. Also, I’m slowly starting to like pediatric dentistry because I think their job is so important and beautiful, the way they are able to change a potential stressful situation for the child into an enjoyable and fun experience for them, its really something to admire.  Those are my options till this moment, I’m not 100% sure because who knows what could happen in the future.

I imagine my work being very interesting, seeing people of different age and backgrounds, educating and helping them with their health. My job would be indoors, working in a dental consultation most of the time but I would also like to travel to other cities to try to help, learn and gain more experience.

If I had the chance to work in a university, I think it would be a great opportunity for me to acquire more knowledge of different subjects, not only as a professional but as a person.

I’m hoping to work in a public dental consultation to try to help and attend people who do not have the money to pay for a treatment.

WILD ANIMALS AND PETS

 Since I was young, I remember being fond of animals. I had a lot of dogs, unfortunately we couldn’t keep them with us because they grew bigger that we though they will be and my house was very small, so we couldn’t give them a big space where they could play around. That was until one of my dad’s friends offered us a small dog. We named her princesa and she has been with us since that day. Now she is 12 years old.

Also, I have another dog. Her name is Millie and she’s 3 years old. We adopted her last year, she was in a very bad condition but now she’s doing better. She plays with my other dog and despite sometimes fighting for their toys, they keep each other company.

 I like animals very much for that reason I can’t stand the use or abuse of them. I don’t like people using o buying fur coats. The animals have to go through unnecessary pain and suffer for the making of expensive clothes which I think it’s very inhumane. 

From what I remember, I don’t have been bitten by a dog, but my aunt did. She was walking home with her friend when an angry dog approach to them and ended up bitten the both of them. She told me it was nothing serious, but it was definitely something hard to forget.

If I could be an animal, I would choose to be a dog, because they are very lovely and loyal, they entertains themselves with few things and gives a lot of love to everyone without anything in return.  

My childhood

 One of the foods that brings me back childhood memories is “Roscas” it makes me go back in time when I was 7 years old, and I was at my grandfather’s house for the winter holidays. I remember my mom and my aunt cooking while me and my cousins were playing around the house laughing and planning what our new mischief would be.

I have many good memories but the one that I treasure the most is the first time I went camping, I remember only had seen people camping in the tv or movies, so it was a totally new experience for me. I went there with my parents, my aunt, my uncle and my cousins, we did many things there like swimming in the lake near the camping zone, take photos while walking around the place and we also had barbecues till late at night, telling stories or just enjoying each other’s presence.

Another moment of my childhood that I remember is when I used to go to the park near my house after school. I remember spending a lot of time there playing with other kids till it was the time to had dinner and do my homework for school.

My childhood as you can see was nothing out of the ordinary, but looking back at these moments, it makes me want to go back in time when I didn’t have as many responsibilities as I do now.

The best holidays I've had

 I remember heard someone saying, “Your dog will only see what you show them” and it resonated with me a lot because when I adopted my dog, the quarantine was just starting. So, I only could take her to the park or places near my house. For that reason, when my parents suggested to spend our summer holidays in Coelemu (Región del Ñuble) this year, I didn’t even have to think about it, it was a great opportunity to show her something different.

I went with my parents and my two dogs for one week, we traveled by car for 5-6 hours, it was a little exhausting, but it was worth it. We did many things there, we visited some relatives and ate a lot of food that one of my aunts cooked for us, like pastel de choclo and humitas, it was very delicious. Also, we saw one of my relative’s vineyard and took a lot of grapes for us. All of this was great, but I think what made this holiday the best so far was to be able to take my dog to the beach for the first time, seeing her running near the sea, dig in the sand and playing with my other dog, meeting new places and people. It was amazing to see her been free without to be locked in the same place like in Santiago. I hope when the situation gets better, I can take my dog to other places along with my family!!!

THE BEST PLACE I'VE EVER BEEN TO

When I was 9-10 years old, my family and I visited many places near Puerto Varas during our vacation, such as Ensenada, a village called Las cascadas and many others but the one that caught my attention was Saltos de Petrohué.

What I remember is that it had waterfalls surrounded of many green areas, and the river that runs there it had very clear water. Also, you could see the volcano Osorno perfectly. So, the view was quite unique and captivating.

 We walked around the place and took many pictures while having a good time and breathing fresh air, something that you can’t do in Santiago.

This place is very popular, I remember seeing a lot of foreign tourists spending their time there. So, I totally recommend visit Saltos de Petrohué, especially If you are interested in having a relaxing time while looking around a beautiful view, and the best thing is that the entrance ticket is not that expensive, so it’s quite accessible for everyone.
